SANAA, Feb. 19 (YPA) – The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Abdulmalik Al-Thawr, inaugurated on Sunday a solar energy-powered irrigation system project dedicated to irrigating coffee trees in Bilad Al-Ghalf area of Bani Matar District in Sanaa Province, benefiting four villages.
At the opening, which was attended by local officials and a group of coffee farmers in the district, the Minister of Agriculture stressed the importance of the project and its role in encouraging farmers in Bani Matar to expand coffee cultivation.
Al-Thawr pointed out that the ministry is working to implement similar projects in the rest of the districts and provinces, in coordination with financiers and supporting agencies.
He noted that the project comes within the framework of the state’s great interest in developing agricultural production and achieving self-sufficiency from this crop, which has had a reputation for high quality throughout history.
After the inauguration, many farmers in those areas uprooted “Qat” trees and planted coffee trees.
