Workshop on international humanitarian law launched in Sanaa

SANAA, Feb. 11 (YPA) – A training workshop on international humanitarian law started in Sanaa on Sunday, organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and the Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The five-day workshop aims to familiarize 31 judges and prosecutors with international humanitarian law, its scope of application, principles and challenges it faces in contemporary armed conflicts, in addition to the guidelines for investigating violations of international humanitarian law.

At the opening, the Minister of Justice, Judge Nabil Al-Azzani, affirmed the keenness of the leadership of the judicial authority to qualify the judicial and administrative cadres to raise the level of capabilities and to keep abreast of developments in international laws and concepts related to international humanitarian law.

Judge Al-Azzani pointed to the role of the judiciary in confronting and monitoring the violations committed by the aggression coalition countries and their mercenaries against Yemeni people, which amounted to war crimes.
