New earthquakes hit number of countries

WORLD, Feb. 10 (YPA) – Earthquakes hit a number of Arab and Islamic countries on Friday, as aftershocks continued for the fifth consecutive day in Turkey.

World seismological centers said: “An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter Scale and a depth of 2 km, struck off the coast of Latakia in Syria.”

The centers added that an earthquake measuring  3.9  on the Richter scale  hit the Bandar Abbas region in Iran, while a magnitude 3.5 earthquake that struck the city of Qasr al-Boukhari in the province of Medea in Algeria.

Turkey’s Seismological Research Center announced on Friday that a 5-magnitude earthquake hit Malatya in the southeast of the country.

This comes after a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck on Thursday in Jayapura in Papua Indonesia province, leaving 4 dead and various damages.

Meanwhile, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca, said, on Thursday, that the death toll of the two earthquakes in Turkey had risen to 17,406 deaths  and 71,806 injures.
