Lavrov: Attempts by Washington and its allies to undermine the nuclear deal with Iran are a big mistake

WORLD, Feb. 01 (YPA) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called on Washington and its Western allies to take serious steps to revive the nuclear deal with Iran, calling their attempts to undermine it a big mistake.

“We are very concerned about the attacks on Iran, and we believe that this is a big mistake by the West. The members of the nuclear deal have taken a goal to undermine this deal, which was unanimously endorsed by the UN Security Council. When the United States unilaterally exited the deal, it demanded that Iran simultaneously implement its commitments,” Lavrov said at a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday

“We would like to bring the United States back to consciousness, to make clear and serious attempts to revive this deal, but the West has begun to take irrational steps.”

“Iran’s nuclear enterprises have been subjected to strict inspection by the IAEA, and it has denied any non-peaceful uses of nuclear energy.”

“The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Washington was currently considering military formulas to “prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons,” he said.

“The Western countries’ acts demonstrate only one thing: they prefer – as they did with the Minsk agreements on the Ukrainian settlement – to ignore UN Security Council resolutions and prefer to move to aggressive actions including the use of military force rather than implementing the resolutions of the highest UN body,” he added.

A White House official said last week that US President Joe Biden does not rule out a military solution with Iran.

He added that Biden is serious about preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, noting that Washington was seeking to return to the nuclear agreement with Tehran, but “now is not the time.
