US House passes bill to limit Biden’s Use of petroleum reserves

WORLD, Jan. 28 (YPA) – The US House of Representatives on Friday passed a bill that aims to curb President Joe Biden’s ability to tap the nation’s petroleum reserves.

According to the proceedings of the session broadcast by the C-SPAN television channel, the initiative received the support of 221 deputies, and 205 voted against.

Most votes were distributed on the basis of party affiliation. Of course, the bill won the support of Republicans, who currently hold a majority in the House of Representatives.

According to the document, the US president has the right to free oil from the strategic reserve, only if companies are allowed to increase the production of energy resources. These are oil fields on land owned by the federal government.  This procedure belongs to cases that are not considered emergency.

Republicans believe that Biden has resorted to releasing oil from the country’s strategic reserve for political reasons, with the aim of strengthening Democrats’ position ahead of the previous midterm congressional elections.

Earlier, White House representatives reported that Biden would veto the bill if approved by the House and Senate.

According to specialized media estimates, the Democratic-controlled Senate is unlikely to approve this initiative.
