Brazilian President inspects Planalto Palace After being stormed by supporters of Bolsonaro

WORLD, Jan. 09 (YPA) – Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva known as Lula on Monday inspected damage to the Planalto Presidential Palace after it was stormed by supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro in the capital, Brasilia.

On Sunday, hundreds of Bolsonaro supporters stormed the Capitol, Supreme Court and Planalto Palace in Brasilia, a week after Lula was inaugurated as president.

Lula condemned the incursion of “fascist saboteurs” into state departments, saying: “We will find them all and they all will be punished.

He stressed that “democracy guarantees freedom of expression, but it also requires respect for institutions.”

Lula also issued a decree calling for “federal intervention” by the security forces to regain control of the security of the capital, Brasilia.

“What these saboteurs, these fanatical fascists have done. Unprecedented in the history of our country. “Those who funded (these protests) will pay the price for these irresponsible and undemocratic acts.”

Lula’s “Federal Intervention” decree empowers the state to control the leadership of security forces, which are usually under the responsibility of local authorities.
