WORLD, Jan. 02 (YPA) – Somali National Army with the support of local forces on Sunday captured Masagawa district in Galgudud region in central Somalia after conducting operation against Al-Shabaab there, Somali National News Agency (SONNA) reported.
“The army, in cooperation with the popular resistance, took control of Masagawa district in Galgudud region,” according to SONNA.
One of the Somali commanders responsible for the operation, said the army had succeeded in taking control of the Masagawa district after clashes with al-Shabaab militants.
He added that the army launched an attack on the city where the extremist movement’s elements were stationed. They had fled and now the army tracking them.
The Somali army moved to clear the Galgudud region of remnants of the terrorist militia after it succeeded in seizing several other central provinces, including Middle Shabelle and Hiran, with the help of local clans.
