SANAA, Nov.19 (YPA) – The Supreme National Authority for Combating Corruption (SNACC), in partnership with the Ministry of Information, organized on Saturday the second coordination meeting with leaders of media institutions, on strengthening the role of national media in combating and preventing corruption.
In the meeting, SNACC’s chairman, Judge Mujahid Ahmed Abdullah, explained that this meeting comes within the framework of the national vision for building the modern Yemeni state, and the objectives of the national strategy to combat corruption.
Judge Mujahid pointed out that the media constitutes a major tool in the process of accountability and accountability, whether directly or through the support it provides to oversight and anti-corruption agencies and bodies.
He stressed the importance of establishing the Preventive Media and Anti-Corruption Unit, as one of the projects of the national anti-corruption strategy, with the aim of directing an informative, educational and awareness-raising discourse on the dangers of corruption and its effects in various aspects of life, and activating the role of society in anti-corruption activities.
Judge Mujahid indicated that the SNACC is keen, within the framework of the national anti-corruption strategy, to allocate the annual award of integrity and transparency for the best media institution, or the best media and journalistic work, in appreciation and gratitude for that.
For his part, the Minister of Information, Daif Allah Al-Shami, affirmed the ministry’s keenness to keep pace with any step taken by state institutions via media coverage, referring to the media’s role in highlighting anti-corruption efforts, confronting campaigns targeting the state institutions, and clarifying facts for the public opinion.
The Minister of Information pointed out the importance of media preventive action against corruption, which requires raising awareness of the dangers of corruption on society and promoting integrity and transparency.
