GAZA, Nov. 18 (YPA) – At least 21 Palestinians, including a number of children, died on Thursday, after a fire broke out in a residential building in Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip .
Health officials and local sources confirmed that residents and family members of the Abu Raya family were attending a party celebrating their sons homecoming from overseas and getting a PhD.
21 people, including 14 children, five women and two men, were killed in the fire that broke out in the apartment building.
Gaza’s interior ministry said the fire was caused by large amounts of gasoline improperly stored, fuelling the blaze that quickly engulfed the building.
There were no survivors among those present in the apartment, the ministry said.
Footage and pictures circulating on social media show the whole residential building caught fire in, sending huge flames and smoke from the site.
So far, the Ministry of Health has not released the official death toll the fire and the cause of its outbreak.
