New escalation of STC militants in Shabwa

SHABWA, Oct. 18 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s on Monday began a new round of escalation against Islah militant in Shabwa province, southern Yemen, amid efforts to remove the party’s last representation in the oil province.

The STC mobilized its supporters and took to the streets in Mayfa’a district, east of Ataq, demanding  the dismissal of the  director general and security director of the district, who are affiliated with the Islah party.

A statement issued by the vigil said that “the appointment of two leaders based on partisan loyalty and personal mediation, and without any scientific qualifications.”

The statement accused the Islah leaders of being responsible “for rampant corruption, mediation, nepotism and arbitrariness towards citizens and their failure to assume their duties.”

The protests come in the context of new Emirati arrangements to complete the process of removing Islah from the political and military scene in Shabwa governorate.
