Sanaa condemns kidnapping of Yemeni fishermen by Eritrean authorities

SANAA, Oct. 09 (YPA) – Ministry of Fisheries in Sanaa strongly condemned on Sunday the kidnapping of six Yemeni fishermen by the Eritrean authorities.

The ministry said in a statement issued that the fishermen from the sons of the Sabalia in Al-Hawk district of Hodeida were kidnapped while practicing their fishing activity inside the Yemeni territorial waters.

“The Eritrean naval forces are still detaining the fishermen Ayman Saghir, Fadi Dersi, Ahmed Abdul Karim, Hisham Saghir, Abdullah Dede, and Ahmed Batili, with confiscating their boats,” the statement added.

The minister pointed out that Yemeni waters are suffering from a continuous process of piracy and kidnapping of Yemeni fishermen, and tightening the screws on them during the fishing process at sea since the beginning of the aggression against Yemen.

It called on the Eritrean authority to quickly release the fishermen and all the kidnapped in its prisons, carrying the safety of the abductees.

The statement called on the United Nations and its humanitarian and human rights organizations to play their role in the face of the kidnapping crimes against the Yemeni fishermen.
