WORLD, Oct. 06 (YPA) – At least 15 migrants died and dozens are missing after two separate boats sank off Greece on Wednesday evening, Greece’s coastguard announced on Thursday.
According to the Greece’s coastguard, 15 migrants -all women- drowned as their boat sank off the island of Lesvos. 9 women were rescued from the boat which is believed to have been carrying about 40 people.
The second rescue effort was launched several hundred kilometers (miles) to the west, off the island of Kythira, where a sailboat struck rocks and sank.
The Greece’s coast guard spokesman Nikos Kokkalas said 80 people had been rescued while a search continued for as many as 15 still believed to be missing.
