China protests US law supporting Taiwan militarily

BEIJING, Sept. 15 (YPA) – The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Thursday it has lodged solemn representations with America after the US Senate bill on Taiwan.

This came after the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved a bill that would provide Taiwan with $4.5 billion in military aid, despite the high tension between Washington and Beijing over the island issue.

In the statement, the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee designated Taiwan a “key non-NATO ally.”

After the approval of the relevant committee, the bill called “On Taiwan Policy” will go to comprehensive study in the Senate of the US Congress.

According to the draft document, it would provide Taiwan with $4.5 billion over four years, up to $2 billion in credit guarantees for military purchases, and position Taipei as the “main US non-NATO ally.”

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted by 17 votes to five in favor of the legislation.
