Sanaa celebrates International Literacy Day

SANAA, Sept. 11 (YPA) – Ministry of Education in Sanaa celebrated on Sunday the International Literacy Day, which falls on Sept 8 of each year.

In the event, organized by the Literacy and Adult Education Authority, a member of the Supreme Political Council Sultan Al-Sami’i stressed the importance of concerted efforts of all and work to reduce the illiteracy rate in the country.

He pointed to the eras of ignorance that followed as a result of political disputes and conflicts, which led to the nation’s lagging behind human development, adding that “Yemen are able to catch up with development and prosperity.”

Al-Sami’i touched on the Saudi-led coalition’s conspiracy and its tools to ignore the Yemeni people, stressing the political leadership’s keenness to advance education and eradicate illiteracy despite the war and the resulting cuts in teachers’ salaries and the unjust siege.

He praised the efforts being made by the Literacy and Adult Education Authority in reducing illiteracy, urging the authority and all concerned parties to eradicate the remaining 29 percent of illiteracy.
