Soldiers surround official, seize millions of riyals in Aden

ADEN, June 24 (YPA) – Dozens of armed soldiers surrounded a financial official at the defense ministry of exiled resigned president Hadi, seizing millions of riyals in the southern port city of Aden, a security source told Yemen Press Agency on Sunday.

The soldiers, who are of the 83rd Infantry Brigade loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, surrounded on Saturday evening the representative of the brigade’s finance department, Ahmed Sha’en, and seized more than 18 million riyals was in his possession, the source said.

The source pointed out that the soldiers did that under the pretext that those amounts were their salaries that have not been paid for months.

The brigade’s leadership is still negotiating with the soldiers in order to get the money back, but the latter reject that completely, he added.
