BAGHDAD, Aug. 29 (YPA) – The Iraqi security forces on Monday imposed a curfew throughout Iraq against the backdrop of the escalation of protests in Baghdad and the south.
The government security media cell stated in a brief press statement: “The Joint Operations Command announces a comprehensive curfew in all governorates of Iraq.”
The security media added, “The curfew starts from 7:00 pm this evening, Monday, and until further notice.”
Earlier in the day, an Iraqi security source said that the Iraqi forces declared a state of maximum alert in the capital, Baghdad, and cut off the vacation of its members, against the backdrop of the massive demonstrations taking place in the city.
This comes after a number of “Sadrist” movement’s demonstrators stormed the Republican Palace in the Green Zone in central Baghdad earlier today.
