ISLAMABAD, Aug. 28 (YPA) – The death toll from devastating floods caused by unprecedented heavy monsoon rains has risen to 930 dead and 1,343 wounded, Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority has said.
According to the authority, the monsoon season, which began in June, has lashed Pakistan with particularly heavy rains this year and rescuers have struggled to evacuate thousands of marooned people from flood-hit areas.
In Baluchistan, all 34 districts of the impoverish province were badly affected due to the heavy rains and subsequent flooding.
Road networks were destroyed and bridges washed away and relief is possible only with helicopters, which are not often able to operate because of bad weather.
The statement stressed that it is expanding all possible support and assistance to flood victims across the country.
In the same vein, the Pakistani government has agreed to deploy army forces in all provinces of the country to assist the Civil Administration in relief and rescue operations in flood-affected areas of the country.
