FM calls on UNICEF to intensify its efforts to support humanitarian service projects

SANAA, Aug. 24 (YPA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs in Sanaa, Hisham Sharaf, called on UNICEF to intensify its efforts in supporting the necessary humanitarian service projects in the fields of water, education and health to alleviate to the humanitarian catastrophe that Yemen is going through as a result of the aggression and the siege.

This came during his meeting on Wednesday with the Deputy Executive Director of United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Hanan Suleiman, and the UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa Adele Khader, who are currently visiting Yemen.

The minister indicated that raising the level of service for the Yemeni citizen requires ending the aggression and lifting the siege on Yemen, in order to reach a peaceful settlement and lasting peace.

He called on the Saudi-led coalition countries to seize the opportunity of the truce and the repeated calls from the leadership in Sanaa for peace.

In turn, Suleiman said that the fragile humanitarian situation in Yemen would be a top priority for UNICEF, which is working hard with donors to provide funding for urgent humanitarian projects.
