SANAA, Aug. 14 (YPA) – At least 35 people were killed and 45 others injured in a horrific fire erupted on Sunday in one of churches in Imbaba area of Giza province of Egypt.
According to a statement by Egypt’s Ministry of Interior, the fire that broke out was the result of a short circuit in the church’s electricity generator, which resulted in the emission of a thick amount of smoke, which led to a stampede among the worshipers, who numbered more than five thousand.
For his part, Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population in Egypt, said: Dozens of injured people from the Abu Sefein Church fire at Imbaba Airport in Giza were transferred to hospitals.
He affirmed on Twitter that 30 ambulances were paid to transport the injured to Imbaba General Hospital and Agouza Hospital.
Meanwhile, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi confirmed that he closely followed the developments of the tragic accident at Abu Sefein Church, in Imbaba area of Giza.
