New statement issued by UN Envoy for Yemen on release of detainees

AMMAN, Aug. 04 (YPA) – The Office of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg urged the Yemeni parties to continue the process of exchanging names to ensure a swift release of all detainees according to what was agreed upon in March 2022.

This came in follow-up to the press release regarding the Supervisory Committee on the Implementation of the Detainees’ exchange Agreement that concluded its sixth meeting on 31 July 2022 in Amman, Jordan.

The Office clarified that during the meeting, a proposal was put forward to form a committee that brings together both parties under a joint framework to support the process of verifying the identities of the names of detainees included in their respective lists, provided that agreement is reached regarding the details following consultation with relevant authorities.
