China’s Defense Ministry is on high alert after Pelosi’s arrival in Taiwan

BEIJING, Aug. 03 (YPA) – Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman, Wu Qian, announced Tuesday that the ministry is on high alert following the arrival of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who is heading a delegation to Taiwan.

The “Russia Today” website quoted Qian as saying that the ministry “will launch a series of military operations as countermeasures and firmly defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Pelosi said upon her arrival in Taiwan that her controversial visit demonstrated Washington’s strong commitment to the self-ruled island that China considers part of its territory.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry strongly condemned, in a statement issued Tuesday, the visit of Pelosi to Taiwan, and considered that the visit sends the wrong signals to the separatist forces seeking independence for Taiwan.
