Sudan confirms first case of monkeypox

DARFUR, Aug. 01 (YPA) – Sudan’s Ministry of Health announced the registration of the first confirmed case of monkeypox in West Darfur On Sunday.

According to the ministry, the person infected with monkeypox is a 16-year-old student, and his condition was confirmed by the National Public Health Laboratory.

The ministry denied recording other cases of the disease in Sudan, according to the Sudanese news agency “SUNA”.

For his part, the Director of the General Department of Emergency and Epidemic Control at the Ministry, Dr. Muntasir Muhammad Othman, said that the suspected cases of the disease “amount to 38”, categorically that all of them are “negative, except for the case of West Darfur.”

Othman added, “The active investigation is now working by the state’s Ministry of Health, with the help of the Federal Ministry of Health, to determine the destination of the infection.”
