Reuters: Third political party will be formed in US
WORLD, Jul. 28 (YPA) – A group of former members of the US Republican and Democratic parties announced the formation of a third party in the country, Reuters reported, citing sources.
The group hopes to attract voters concerned about the dysfunction of the “Two-Party System of America.”
According to the Reuters, the new party will be formed by merging three political forces: Renew America Movement, forward party founded by former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang, and Serve America Movement.
“Dozens of former bipartisan officials on Wednesday announced the formation of a new national political third party to appeal to millions of voters who say they are upset with what they see in America’s dysfunctional two-party system.”
The new party, called “Forward”, and will be headed by former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang and former New Jersey Republican governor Christine Whitman.
Next fall, party leaders will hold a series of events in more than 20 US cities, the report said.
The current US party system includes democrats and Republicans, who have consistently won presidential elections since 1852 and have controlled Congress since 1856. In addition to the two main parties in the US, there are 38 other federal parties, not counting regional parties, but they do not usually affect US politics in practice.
