TRIPOLI, Jul. 02 (YPA) – Organizers of youth demonstrations in several Libyan cities on Friday announced that they would continue to protest peacefully until their goals were achieved, affirming that their patience has run out .
They hinted at the possibility of resorting to civil disobedience.
The organizers thanked “all the young people across Libya” who “answered the call of the homeland” and went out to “support the simple citizen”, who has lost basic needs such as electricity and other livelihoods, as the economic and security situation deteriorating due to chaos and political division,” according to a statement posted on Facebook by Beltress Movement
The statement stressed that the movement continues the “journey of peaceful demonstration” until its objectives are achieved, and that they “will not be satisfied with bargaining or exploitation to change the course of this youth uprising,”
It also expressed its categorical refusal to politicize their peaceful expression and their demands for their rights for political ends”.
“Young people no longer have the patience to face the deteriorating situation, and if the demands were not met soon, all means of peaceful expression of opinion are available to us, including total civil disobedience,” the statement read.
The statement called on all security and military agencies in Libya to respect their legitimate right to peacefully express opinion and demonstrate.
In a separate statement, the movement called on “national youths working in the security services” to “align themselves with your brothers”.
On Friday, فhe main cities in western, eastern and southern Libya have witnessed demonstrations calling for the departure of all existing political institutions in the country, and the holding of elections without any delay.
