Massive protests hit Aden

ADEN, Jun. 20 (YPA) – Citizens have staged massive protests in Yemen’s southern port city of Aden, on Sunday night, denouncing the Saudi-led coalition-backed government’s raising of fuel prices, as living conditions continue to deteriorate in several areas, which are under the control of the coalition-backed militias.

Demonstrators set fire to tires in the streets of al-Mansoura directorate, in protest against fuel price rises.

The price of a 20-liter gasoline tank increased to 26,000 riyals.

According to the sources, the protesters blocked major the streets of al- Mansoura, Aden’s largest directorate, causing a traffic jam in the city, as they prevented cars from passing.

The protesters raised slogans against the Riyadh-formed Presidential Council, headed by Rashad Al-Alimi, and the government loyal to Saudi-led coalition, demanding that they fulfill their responsibilities in providing services and improving the exchange of the riyal against foreign currencies.

The sources also confirmed angry protests extended to other streets in the districts of Sheikh Othman and Al-Buraiqeh, while many shops closed their doors for fearing of looting.
