Aden protesters demand departure of Riyadh-formed Council, pro-coalition government

ADEN, Jun. 18 (YPA) – Hundreds of protesting citizens demonstrated this afternoon, Saturday, in front of Ma’ashiq Palace gate in the port city of Aden, southern Yemen, to demand the provision of electricity and the payment of salaries to employees.

The protesters raised slogans against the Riyadh-formed Presidential Council, headed by Rashad Al-Alimi, and the government loyal to Saudi-led coalition, demanding that they fulfill their responsibilities in providing services and improving the exchange of the riyal against foreign currencies.

Surrounding the palace in the Crater area, the protesters called on Al-Alimi’s Council and the government, headed by Maeen Abdulmalik, to immediately leave Aden, accusing them of corruption, looting money and doubling the suffering of citizens.

Two demonstrators in Aden carry a sign that reads, “No electricity, no water, no salaries.. O Trattier (corrupt officials), your homes are lit with generators.”

They stressed finding immediate solutions for electricity outages and the rest of the main services, threatening to storm Ma’ashiq Palace if their legitimate demands were not met, and they vowed to resume protests in the coming days, if the imbalances are not addressed in Aden and the rest of the southern provinces.

Earlier in the day, the city of Aden witnessed a stifling crisis in oil derivatives, which observers considered as a punitive measure against the movements of the street demanding the expulsion of the government and the purification of Aden of corruption and the corrupt.
