Sanaa, UN discuss sea piracy continued on fuel ships

SANAA, May 30 (YPA) – Deputy Minister of Oil and Minerals in Sanaa, Yasser Al-Wahidi, discussed on Monday with the UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs for Yemen, William David Grisley, the maritime piracy being continued by the Saudi-led coalition forces on the fuel ships.

In the meeting, Deputy Minister briefed the UN official on the humanitarian situation and the suffering of citizens as a result of the coalition’s economic siege on the Yemeni people by seizing oil derivatives ships and domestic gas, which have resulted in large fines estimated at over $6 million.

Deputy Minister stressed the importance of the role of the United Nations in this aspect in order to alleviate the suffering of citizens, indicating that cooking gas is a vital and important substance related directly to human life, which calls for a mechanism for distributing domestic gas from the productivity of the Safer station in Marib.

Al-Wahidi pointed out that these arbitrary practices and measures carried out by the coalition on UN-licensed fuel ships compound the humanitarian suffering, in a flagrant violation of the UN humanitarian and military truce’s items.

For his part, the UN official pointed to the importance of allowing the entry of oil derivatives, especially cooking gas, which are basic substances and important materials to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, stressing his keenness to continue pushing towards positive steps and working to open the port completely.

Grisley stressed the importance of the extent of the Yemeni citizens’ need for cooking gas, and therefore the United Nations would work, through continuous communication, to find solutions and remedies that contribute to alleviating the suffering of citizens.
