Magnitude 6 earthquake hits southern Iran

TEHRAN, March 17 (YPA )  – A 6 magnitude earthquake shook Kukherd district in Hormozgan province, southern Iran, on Thursday.

The quake occurred at 02.45 a.m. local time (1115GMT) in Kukherd district of Hormozgan province 10 kilometers (6.21 miles) below the surface, according to data from the Tehran University Seismology Center.

Following the earthquake, electricity was cut off in some areas of Hormozgan province.

The rescue teams were dispatched to the place.

No damage has been reported so far.
