US TV channels stop broadcasting from Russia

SANAA, March 05 (YPA) – Several US television channels, such as ABC, CBS, CNN and other media outlets, have stopped broadcasting from Russia, according to affiliated sources..

“CBS News does not currently broadcast from Russia while we monitor the circumstances of our team in the country, given today’s media law,” a spokesman for the channel told Deadline.

ABC News also stopped broadcasting from Russia, the website said.

CNN, for its part, announced that broadcasting in Russia had been suspended, according to the network.

“CNN will stop broadcasting in Russia and will continue to assess the situation and determine the next steps as it develops, the exact time for the suspension of broadcasting has not been determined,” the statement said.

On Friday, Bloomberg announced the suspension of its journalists in Russia after Moscow adopted the principle of harsh sanctions if “false information” about the military was published and Ukraine invaded.

“We have with great regret decided to temporarily suspend our news gathering inside Russia,” Bloomberg quoted the news agency’s editor-in-chief John Micklethwait as saying.

“The change in criminal law, which appears to be aimed at turning any independent reporter into a criminal by pure dependency, makes it impossible to continue in any form of ordinary journalism within the country,” he said.

“The change to the criminal code, which seems designed to turn any independent reporter into a criminal purely by association, makes it impossible to continue any semblance of normal journalism inside the country,” Micklethwait said.
