FM discusses with WFP official deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen

SANAA, Feb. 19 (YPA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs in Sanaa, Hisham Sharaf, met on Saturday with the WFP Resident Representative to Yemen, Richard Ragan, to discuss the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen.

In the meeting, the officials discussed also the current arrangements for the visit of the Executive Director of WFP to Sanaa during the coming period.

Sharaf affirmed that the visit would reflect the reality of the tragic situation experienced by the Yemeni people after seven years of war and siege imposed by the Saudi-led coalition, as well as contribute to mobilizing the necessary resources to confront the worsening humanitarian situation in Yemen and alleviate the suffering of millions of Yemenis who live in difficult conditions.

The minister stated that the latest statistics indicated “that the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance is constantly increasing as a result of the coalition’s escalation and targeting of civilian places, which led to flee about four million people.”

For his part, the WFP official affirmed that the program would exert efforts with donor countries to provide the urgent need to increase humanitarian assistance to ease the Yemeni people.
