SANAA, Feb. 19 (YPA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs in Sanaa, Hisham Sharaf, discussed on Saturday with UNESCO several projects related to preserving antiquarian sites of Yemen.
This came during his meeting with the representative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization “UNESCO” to Yemen and the Gulf states, Dr. “Anna Paolini,” and her accompanying delegation.
In the meeting, the minister gave a detailed explanation of the suffering of the Yemeni people as a result of the ongoing war and siege imposed by the Saudi-led coalition on Yemen for seven years, including the coalition’s targeting of archaeological sites such as the ancient city of Sanaa and Zabid, registered on the World Heritage List.
Sharaf called on UNESCO to pay special attention to the situation in Yemen, given that the archaeological sites and manuscripts targeted are not the property of Yemen only, but are the property of humanity and must be preserved and restored.
The minister appreciated the interest of “UNESCO” and many international and non-governmental organizations in dealing with the situation left by the coalition, calling on these organizations to convey what they see on the ground to the international community the reality of the destructive operations carried out by the aggression warplanes in all Yemeni provinces.
For her part, Paolini explained that UNESCO is aware of the importance of heritage and antiquities in Yemen as a world heritage, noting that there projects would be carried out to preserve this human heritage.
