Transport Minister, UNDP representative discuss projects to rehabilitate Hodeida port

SANAA, Feb. 02 (YPA) – Minister of Transport in the Sanaa government, Amer Al-Marani, discussed on Wednesday with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP)’s resident representative in Yemen, Auke Lootsma, projects to be implemented during 2022 for the rehabilitation of Hodeida port.

The meeting touched on the reasons that prevented the purchase of cranes and bridge cranes of importance in the work of the port of Hodeida, and the maintenance of equipment and devices in the port according to the agreement between the Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation and the Program.

In the meeting, The Minister of Transport reiterated that the work of the Hodeidah port is humanitarian, denouncing the silence of the UNDP regarding the allegations of the Saudi-led coalition countries of militarizing the port of Hodeida.

He expressed regret that the UNDP did not implement the development projects for the port, despite the facilities and technical advice provided by the Ministry of Transport and the Ports Corporation.

For his part, the UNDP resident representative affirmed the importance of the Hodeida port and the need to rehabilitate and re-operate it technically to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
