New round of Iranian-Saudi talks to be held soon

SANAA, Jan. 28 (YPA) – The Iranian ambassador to Iraq, Iraj Masjedi, said hat the fifth round of talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia would be held soon in the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

In an interview with UNews, Masjedi confirmed that “good progress” had been made in the previous four rounds of talks, adding that the fifth round “will be held soon hopefully”.

The Iranian diplomat stressed that Tehran and Riyadh have “political will to solve their common problems.”

He added, the agenda of the talks is focused on the two countries being able primarily to remove the several-year stalemate in their bilateral relations and gradually restore them to normalcy.

Masjedi acknowledged that this process might take some time, but both parties were interested in resolving the problems between them.

“There has been a lot of discussion in these four rounds of talks, and I think the proposals we have made have been reviewed by the Saudi side,” he said , adding that in the fifth round it is possible to make good decisions. It seems that decisions and consensuses may need to be finalized and then we will announce to the people the results of the talks hopefully.”
