Moscow: Offensive on Yemen’s Hodeidah will hamper political settlement in the country

SANAA, June 14 (YPA) – Russian Foreign Ministry on Thursday warned that offensive on Yemen’s Red Sea Port City of Hodeidah by the Saudi-led coalition forces would result in a humanitarian catastrophe and will hamper political settlement in the country.

“All this confirms our initial misgivings that the offensive on Hodeidah threatens to result in catastrophic consequences for the whole of Yemen. We deeply regret that UN Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths was not provided with the additional time he was requesting to prevent the implementation of such a scenario,” the statement read.

The ministry added that the ongoing offensive would significantly damage “the prospects for a political settlement of the Yemen crisis.”
