Russian peacekeepers start protecting vital facilities in Kazakhstan

SANAA, Jan. 09 (YPA) – Russian troops from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) peacekeeping forces have begun protecting vital facilities in Kazakhstan, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The Ministry said in a statement that Russian peacekeeping units, which had been airlifted on military transport aircraft from Russian airports, had begun their duties after being informed of the situation in Kazakhstan.

The Ministry explained that Russian troops’ main task is to protect Kazakhstan’s vital facilities, infrastructure and social institutions.

Russian military transport aircraft have carried out more than 70 flights to date, using Il-76 and An-124 aircraft to transport units of the Collective Security Treaty Organization peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan.

In accordance with the decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council adopted on January 6, 2022, the Collective Security Treaty Organization Collective Peacekeeping Forces have been sent to the Republic of Kazakhstan for a limited period of time to stabilize and normalize the situation.
