SANAA, Dec. 15 (YPA) – UN Assistant Secretary-General for Policy and Peacebuying Rosemary DiCarlo has called on the US to lift or waive sanctions against Iran, as outlined in the plan, and extend waivers regarding oil trade with the country.
“Also important is the extension of US waivers regarding certain civilian nuclear-related activities taking place at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, the Fordow Facility, and the Arak reactor,” she continued.
“Waiver extensions are also required for the transfer of enriched uranium out of the Islamic Republic of Iran in exchange for natural uranium.”
She added waiver extensions were also needed for exchanging enriched uranium out of Iran for natural uranium.
The deal has been on life support since 2018, when former president Donald Trump pulled the US out of the accord, which provided Iran with sanctions relief in return for curbs on its nuclear program, prompting Tehran to begin rolling back on its commitments.
DiCarlo called on Iran “to reverse the steps it has taken that are not consistent with its nuclear-related commitments under the plan.”
Vienna is hosting the seventh round of EU-sponsored negotiations to salvage the Iran nuclear deal as the United States withdraws from Iran in 2018 during the term of its former president, Donald Trump, who imposed severe sanctions on the Iranian side, the latter responding by reducing its commitments within the deal since 2019.
Talks are officially under way between Iran, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany, while the United States is engaged in dialogue without any direct contacts with the Iranian side.
Tehran refuses to negotiate directly with the administration of President Joe Biden before sanctions are lifted.
