STC deploys armoured vehicles in Aden

ADEN, Dec. 04 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) Militia on Saturday deployed a number of military and armoured vehicles in  the streets of major cities of  Aden, Southern Yemen, eyewitnesses said.

According to eyewitnesses, the STC’s armed militia were deployed in the streets of the Crater area to prevent and suppress demonstrators who took to the street to denounce the economic collapse.

The deployment of the STC’s militia came following calls for a popular uprising by the “revolution of the hungry” movement under the slogan “I am hungry, I am coming down”.

A number of demonstrators set up the first tents of protests in the district of Crater in response to calls from citizens for an open sit-in, denouncing the high prices as a result of the collapse of the local currency and the high price of a loaf of bread that hit 75 riyals.

Aden University announced the all-out strike, due to the inability of professors and students to reach the university due to high transportation wages.

The city of Aden and all areas under the control of the Hadi government have been experiencing a crazy rise in food prices, after the exchange rate exceeded 1700 riyals for a per dollar.
