Russia sends 3 military transport planes to Afghanistan to evacuate its citizens

MOSCOW, Dec. 01 (YPA) – On the orders of President Vladimir Putin, three military transport planes flew to the Afghan capital Kabul to evacuate more than 380 Russian citizens, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and Afghan students studying at Russian universities, the Russian Defense Ministry said Wednesday.

“On behalf of President Vladimir Putin, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu organized operation 3rd from Afghanistan by military transport aircraft to evacuate more than 380 people from Russia, Member States of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (Kyrgyzstan) and Afghan students studying at Russian universities,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

“An aviation group of three military transport aircraft has been formed that took off from Shchyolkovo airport towards Kabul,” the statement added.

One aircraft with humanitarian assistance on board landed at Kabul airport, he said.

Last month, the Russian President’s special envoy to Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, confirmed Russia’s readiness to participate in businesses in Afghanistan.
