Parliament Speaker sends letter to UN Secretary-General on Children’s Day
SANAA, Nov. 21 (YPA) – The Speaker of Parliament, Yahya Ali Al-Ra’i, on Sunday sent a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, on crimes and violations committed against Yemen children by the Saudi-led coalition, in conjunction with the International Children’s Day.
The Parliament Speaker called on the international community, the United Nations, the world, and international organizations concerned with childhood to bear the humanitarian and moral responsibility towards the children of Yemen and to work to stop the aggression and end the siege.
“Thousands of Yemeni children have been killed as a result of the aggression and have been disabled, and tens of thousands have been displaced and child care homes have stopped, while the international community and the United Nations have not moved a finger,” the letter said.
In the letter, Al-Ra’i reminded the United Nations and the Security Council that mothers of the world children celebrate this occasion, while the children of Yemen – the forgotten country- live under the rubble and are subjected to thousands of airstrikes, crimes and violations committed by “the US-Saudi-Emirati aggression” over seven years.
He said:”Hasn’t the sound of the suffering of the children of Yemen reached your ears, to wake you up from your deep slumber, and to stir your conscience to reconsider your positions regarding what childhood is being exposed to in Yemen?”
The Parliament Speaker pointed out that Yemeni children have been deprived of their basic rights to life, while the world pays tribute to children’s rights and turns a blind eye to the aggression crimes committed against the Yemeni people.
He stressed that the children of Yemen live under bombardment, and they are the most group affected by the aggression, whether through direct targeting by air bombing or through the repercussions of the aggression and siege.
Al-Ra’i touched on the aggression coalition’s crimes against children, such as the massacre of “Dahyan” in Saada province and others.
