Transport Minister calls on UN to cooperate seriously on ‘Safer’ ship issue

SANAA, Nov. 16 (YPA) – The Minister of Transport in the Salvation Government, Amer Al-Marani, on Tuesday called on the United Nations to cooperate and work with seriousness and interest in the issue of Safer ship (oil floating tank) to preserve the environment and marine life.

This came during his meeting with Samia Al-Duaij, an environmental and emergency response expert at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The meeting dealt with the repercussions and catastrophic risks that may result from any oil spill from the Safer Reservoir in the Red Sea.

The Minister of Transport expressed his regret for the United Nations’ inattention of the agreements regarding the Safer ship and its failure to implement the outcomes of the meetings in this regard.

Al-Marani explained that the coalition countries led by Saudi Arabia withdrew the ship’s crew and prevented the engineers from providing the ship’s maintenance needs.
