Iran: Yemeni people can decide about their fate

SANAA, Nov. 02 (YPA) – Ali Asghar Khaji, a special aide to Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, said on Sunday that it is the Yemeni people who will finally decide about their fate.

Khaji made the remarks during a meeting in Tehran with Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen Hans Grundberg.

He said that the lifting of the brutal siege on Yemen is a prelude to solving the political crisis in the country.

Noting that mistrust is the missing loop of the development of negotiations, Khaji added that rebuilding trust has to be coupled with practical measures, particularly in the area of humanitarian affairs.

He voiced Iran’s support for any fair effort of the United Nations to help settle the crisis in Yemen.

For his part, the UN envoy stressed the role of the regional countries in the Yemeni peace process, calling for further support of Iran in this regard.

Grundberg said that he is evaluating different viewpoints and aims to consider the concerns of different Yemeni groups in his future plans.
