3 people killed, 80 injured during protests in Sudan

KHARTOUM, Oct. 26 (YPA) – The Central Committee of Sudan Doctors said in a statement on Monday that three people were shot dead and more than 80 others were injured during their participation in protests rejecting the army’s decisions.

This came after the Sudanese army decided to dissolve the Transitional Sovereignty Council and the Council of Ministers, declare a state of emergency in the country, and dismiss the states’ governors.

The Sudanese Professionals Association had appealed to citizens to “go out to the streets, close them with barricades, spread peaceful resistance, and to start political strike and comprehensive civil disobedience.”

In a related context, the office of the Sudanese Prime Minister, Abdullah Hamdok, announced that the Prime Minister and his wife were kidnapped at dawn today, Monday, from their residence in Khartoum, and they were taken to an unknown destination by a military force.

According to media reports, military forces arrested four government ministers and civilian member of the Sovereignty Council, Muhammad al-Faki Suleiman.

Among the arrested ministers were Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Khaled Omar, Minister of Information Hamza Balloul, and Minister of Industry Ibrahim al-Sheikh.
