President al-Mashat sends message to UN Secretary-General

SANAA, Oct. 24 (YPA) – President of the Supreme Political Council, Mahdi Al-Mashat, sent on Sunday a cable of congratulations to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, on the occasion of United Nations Day.

In the cable, Al-Mashat addressed Guterres, saying, Yemen is one of the first countries to join the United Nations, which bears the responsibility of maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations between countries, and achieving international cooperation.

Mr. President went on to say: Since 1947, Yemen has been keen to actively participate in all forums of the United Nations and its various programs and to cooperate fully in various fields, however, unfortunately, the United Nations has been played a negative role in Yemen in providing the political cover for the horrific crimes committed by the US-backed Saudi-led aggression coalition since March 26, 2015, with its brutal aggression and suffocating siege on the Yemeni people.

“We have been also surprised by the position of the Security Council and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, which uses double standards and absolves the perpetrator of any responsibility for crimes,” Al-Mashat added. “The recent statement of the Security Council, which was accompanied by coalition airstrikes targeting citizens and civilian objects, is only clear evidence of this bias.”

The President explained “the persistence of the UN in adopting this incorrect policy increases the people’s resentment and suffering day after day until the UN role is becoming without value to the peoples of the world as a natural result of its realistic departure from their aspirations and hopes of the UN Charter and principles.

“What the Yemeni people are suffering from the suffocating air, land and sea blockade, which have affected the lives over 25 million Yemenis and killed hundreds of thousands of Yemenis directly and indirectly, under the UN silince, is a testimony to the denial of all international laws and charters that consider such as war crimes and genocide.”

Al-Mashat affirmed that the failure to renew the UN team of eminent international and regional experts is one of the recent evidence that proves the reality of continued bias by the UN, and the ability of Saudi money to negatively affect the level of performance of the United Nations and make it biased towards the perpetrator against the victim.

“We, in the Republic of Yemen, express the continuation of the Supreme Political Council and the National Salvation Government to cooperate with the United Nations and all international organizations that are based in the capital, Sanaa.”

Ha added:”We affirm our adherence to our people’s right to independence and freedom, and the United Nations should play its humanities role towards the Yemeni people.

Finally, we affirm that the seat of the Republic of Yemen at the United Nations is still vacant, and whoever occupies that seat does not represent the interests of the Yemeni people, al-Mashat renewed.
