12 Yemeni fishermen arrive in Hodeida after 2 years of detention in Saudi prisons

HODEIDA, Oct. 20 (YPA) – The General Authority for Fisheries in the Red Sea and the Fishermen’s Chamber for Emergency and Development in Hodeida province on Tuesday received 12 fishermen after they were detained for more than two years by the Saudi authorities.

This is part of the Saudi authorities’ arbitrary practices against Yemeni fishermen.

Head of the General Authority for Fisheries, Engineer Hashim Ali Al-Dana’i, urged taking care of the returning fishermen and providing transportation and sums of money for them to ensure their access to their areas of residence.

According to the Central Maritime Fisheries Operations Room, the forces of the Saudi state of aggression assaulted the fishermen while they were practicing their fishing activity north of the island of “Kutama” by about 20 nautical miles, and detained their boats on October 29, 2019. They were taken to one of the Saudi prisons, and were subjected to the most horrific means of torture, which resulted in the death of the fisherman Ayoub Hussein Muhammad Al-Khrafi.
