At least 15 people killed in China due to floods

SANAA, Oct. 12 (YPA) – At least 15 people were killed by heavy rains and floods in China’s northern province of Shanxi, local officials said Tuesday.

During  a press conference Tuesday, the official said  that three more people have been reported missing and more than 120,000 people have been evacuated from the area due to the floods.

“Heavy rains caused 1,757,100 people in 11 cities and 76 districts in the province, in the disaster zone. The floods killed 15 people and left three missing, and 18.2,000 people were evacuated from the area.

Heavy water destroyed more than 19.5,000 buildings and severely damaged 18.2,000 buildings. Direct economic losses are estimated at 5.03 billion yuan (about $780 million).”

According to authorities, from October 2 to 7, the province experienced the strongest autumn flood in the history of meteorological observations, and heavy rains in many areas did not stop over several days.

Local authorities in northwest China’s Shanxi Province said in a statement On Monday that four people had been killed in a coal mine collapse in the area.
