Initial turnout in Iraq elections was 41 pct: IHEC

BADGDAD, Oct. 11 (YPA) – Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) said early Monday morning that primary turnout in the general elections was 41 percent.

Preliminary results are expected to be announced later today.

More than 3,000 candidates from 83 constituencies were in the polls, competing for 329 seats in the Iraqi parliament.

The elections were held at 8,273 polling stations nationwide, with 1,249 international observers and 147,152 local observers participating, according to IHEC spokeswoman Jumana al-Ghalay.
