ISIS claims responsibility for mosque bombing in northern Afghanistan

SANAA, Oct. 08 (YPA) – ISIS has claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on a mosque in Afghanistan’s northeastern Kunduz province on Friday, the group said on its Telegram channels.

Dozens of people have been killed in a suicide bombing at a Shia mosque in Afghanistan’s northeastern city of Kunduz during Friday prayers.

“The explosion at the Sayed Abad mosque in Kunduz left 46 dead and 143 injured,” The new Afghan government’s Bakhter agency, quoting officials as saying.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman, confirmed on his Twitter account that a number of our compatriots were martyred and wounded, adding that “special forces have arrived at the scene to investigate.”

” The UN family in Afghanistan is deeply concerned by reports of very high casualties in an attack today in Sayyidabad Shia Mosque, Khanabad, Kunduz. Initial information indicates more than 100 people killed and injured in a suicide blast inside the mosque,” UNAMA said in a tweet.

It added, Today’s incident is the third deadly attack this week apparently targeting a religious institution.
