Southern Movement condemns UAE-backed STC’s detention of Al-Kathiri

ADEN, Sept. 24 (YPA) – The Supreme Council of the Southern Revolutionary Movement, known as al-Hirak, on Thursday condemned the continued detention of its president, Leila Al-Kathiri and placed her under house arrest in Aden by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militias.

The Executive Office of the Southern Movement Council confirmed the detention of Al-Kathiri, earlier this week, for more than six hours continuously, in the Dar Saad police station, and placed her under house arrest inside her home in the city.

In a statement, the movement said that the “STC” worked to suppress the that demanding better living conditions and basic services.

The UAE-backed militia used excessive force, and abducted dozens of activists and politicians, considering it reckless and uncalculated consequences, the statement read.

It called on human rights organizations to monitor violations and kidnappings in the city, stressing that the silence of civil society institutions on these abuses will make them to expand and hit everyone.
