Abu Dhabi rejects European Parliament resolution on human rights

ABU DHABI, Sept. 18 (YPA) – The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday expressed its rejection of the European Parliament’s decision on human rights in the Gulf state.

“We reject the resolution adopted this week in the European Parliament regarding the UAE,” Saeed Al Habsi, director of the human rights department at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a statement.

He added, “We strongly reject the allegations contained in the text, which were previously addressed and rejected as factually incorrect. Moreover, the resolution completely ignores all the important achievements of the UAE in the field of human rights.”

He continued, “Each country has its own laws and legal institutions – the UAE constitution and national legislation enshrine basic rights that provide for the fair treatment of all citizens and residents.”

The European Parliament had issued a resolution calling on member states to boycott the “Expo 2020” exhibition, which will be held soon in Dubai, and also calls on international companies to withdraw their sponsorship, in protest against the human rights record in the UAE.
