ABYAN, Sept. 03 (YPA) – An armed attack targeted on Thursday a checkpoint of the so-called “Security Belt Force” of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Abyan province, southern Yemen.
According to local sources in the city, the security belt force checkpoint near the irrigation project in Ja’ar city of Khanfir district, came under heavy fire by gunmen.
The attack has left but causalities, the sources added.
According to the sources, the Security belt forces managed to arrest one of the perpetrators.
The attack came a day after two soldiers loyal to Hadi government were killed in an attack by two gunmen riding on a motorcycle in Lawdar district.
Abyan province has been transformed into a qualifying ground between Hadi’s forces and the STC militia since the council took control of Zinjibar district, the center of the province, in August 2019, taking advantage of the collapse of the “Hadi” forces after they were bombed by UAE warplanes at Alalam point at the entrance to Aden, in which 300 troops were killed or wounded.
